Where Have All the Niches Gone

Well where have they gone? Have all the good niches really been snatched up by the seasoned affiliate marketers? Leaving only the remains and a few breadcrumbs for those joining the scene now?

Far from it my friends. Because the beauty of the Internet is that new niches are born everyday. Even better, you can rest assured that not every niche has been discovered, or even close. They’re out there waiting to be discovered. And you don’t have to be a marketing pro to find one.

Nope, niches are all around you. Let me give you an example. A month or two ago, my wife and I were watching a well-known cooking show. I don’t know the name of it, I just know my wife and all her friends watch it religiously. At either rate, somehow I ended up watching it with her. During the show, a unique term popped up.

Understand what I mean when I say “new term”. I mean that it’s a new term to me. Something I’ve never heard before that merits research. They’re all around me and come to me often. Not all the terms end up becoming websites, in fact, only a small percentage are ever actually built. But some do get built, and most begin just this way. Beginning as just a term (read: keyword or key phrase) and ending up a productive affiliate website within my portfolio.

That is exactly what happened with this particular term. I would love to tell you what it is, but I can’t have you moving in on my niches can I? What I can tell you is that it met certain requirements that I have for a new website.

1. Unique keyword or key phrase

2. Keyword or key phrase actually has significant search volume.

3. Competition within the keyword or key phrase is limited.

4. Keyword or key phrase is available as a.com domain

5. Keyword or key phrase is marketable. By this I mean there are viable marketing solutions and affiliate programs that fit.

All the factors have to be in place for the project be viable. If all five are not there, then no immediate marketing plan exists. This does not mean that sometimes a good opportunity might exist for future development, if other factors are in place. What I mean by this is that it is possible to stumble upon a new keyword or key phrase prior to its marketability. Though rare, occasionally you will come across the types of opportunities. What I do in this case is weigh the possibility of the future market as honestly as possible. If I see a real opportunity in the future, I will often register domains on that basis.

But be careful, because you may end up with 50 or 100 domains that never see development. Because not every idea or every intuition is correct. I can tell you from experience that I have in my portfolio of domains at least 50 losers that will never see the light of day.

It’s the nature of the beast though. For me, this is just part of building my affiliate website empire. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But if you meet the five parameters listed above with any new idea you can be successful.

You just have to build it…

So I built the site, and it has done well for me. Another nice one for the Gipper. All from a key phrase I picked up while watching a dumb cooking show.

A dumb cooking show that has now made me several thousand dollars…
