It’s a question I get a lot. What is the best type of affiliate program to promote? Which one will make me the most money???

Wow, that’s the million dollar question, isn’t it?

Boy oh boy do I wish I could give you a stock answer, but I can’t. Because what program is best for you is going to change entirely from person to person and from website to website. Depending on what the focus of the website is, the expertise of the person, etc.

Because there are programs out there that can pay you thousands of dollars for a single referral. But it only works if you can send a qualified buyer to them, and in most cases, that’s probably not going to happen anytime soon.

Let’s look at this example.

Let’s say that you have a personal coaching plan, costing $12,000, that pays you $6000 per referral that buys their program. Sounds awesome, right? Yeah, it is, but now you have got to find someone that is A, qualified to buy something that runs over ten grand, and B, someone that will actually whip out the credit card and buy that program from your website referral. Now I’m not saying that these types of commissions don’t happen, of course they do, but they may be spread a little further apart than a program that costs a little less.

Which is why you need to pick out the right affiliate programs for you. It’s ok to promote our example program if you have a website that can sell it, but it’s probably not going to do much for you if you are promoting it on an unrelated site. Let me explain what I mean.

Many people add programs to their site simply because they pay well, not because it benefits their website users. If you have a cooking blog and are pimping a high dollar self help program, it’s probably not going to result in many, possibly any, sales. But if you sell them cookware, recipes, etc, then you probably have a higher shot at a decent conversion rate.

Don’t pick out affiliate programs simply for their payout, pick them for you and your site. Find relevant, appropriate programs to promote, always keeping your user base in mind, and you will go further.

Everyone in the affiliate marketing game knows that hosting affiliate programs are some of the leading payouts. If done correctly, you can make some serious cash each month with very few conversions. For example, Hostgator pays out a whopping $100 per sale, even if the customer only signs up for one month of hosting.

That’s a pretty strong payout!

So it doesn’t take a math major to figure out that you only need a few sales each month to pay the mortgage. The problem is that all the good search angles are taken, right?

Wrong.

What you need to do is think outside the box and find search terms with traffic that are going to rank well in the organic search pages. If you can get a blog or a website ranked for one or more of these tight little nitches, you can make some sales. Remember, you only need 20 a month to rake in 2 grand. I know, it’s not exactly rich, but it is a nice little monthly paycheck.

So use the Google keyword tool to its fullest and find those nitches. They’re out there boys and girls, just waiting.

I found three yesterday, and as soon as the sites are built, I’ll put one or two url’s up for your perusal.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

I was pretty excited when I found the Blog i360 affiliate program this morning. Until I found out that they are excluding me, my company, and a whole bunch of other affiliate marketers.

Once again, a really great program was developed with lots of thought for the marketers. (this is in no way a slam on their program, it looks great. That’s why I wanted to signup.) But they missed out on a very important factor to every affiliate on the planet.

How we get paid.

Once again, a promising program has assumed that all affiliates and companies that could and should promote their product can only have Paypal as a payment option. A huge mistake. One that I keep seeing time and time again.

Let me explain this to the powers that be over at Blog i360 and other programs that miss this important part of setting up an affiliate program. You see, there are lots of companies and marketers that do not accept Paypal in any way, shape, or form. Some of the biggest sites on the web do not market programs that require Paypal because it’s part of their payment acceptance policy. As far as solo marketers go, many just want to see a check each month.

Like me.

I have had issues with Paypal that have made me make it a policy not to do business with them. In turn, this policy extends to companies that only offer the option for Paypal. I won’t go into the reasons why, but if you are looking for Paypal horror stories, you can find them here.

Bottom line is this. I want to have a check mailed to me each and every month from every affiliate program I promote. It helps with accounting and lots of other things.

Plus, there’s just something about that feeling of accomplishment when you walk out to the mailbox and find those checks waiting for you.

So come on Blog i360 ! Add some options and let this pro affiliate market your program. I’m chomping at the bit to get a piece of those great recurring payouts your affiliate page offers.
